It grows up to Template:Convert tall, with leaves up to Template:Convert long and Template:Convert wide.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref>


It is native to parts of Northern and Western Europe, where it grows in moist spots in a number of habitat types. In its native European range this species is often associated with the Juncus subnodulosusCirsium palustre fen-meadow habitat.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref> It is also a dominant plant in the Carex acutiformis swamp plant association.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref>
