It is native to Europe, northern Asia, the eastern United States, and eastern Canada.<ref name= pridgeon>Template:Cite book</ref> It grows in fens, bogs and dune slacks.<ref name =pridgeon /> It has yellow flowers and glossy yellow-green leaves.<ref>NPT CBC - County Flower</ref>
